Mi-yu (Stone spa)
Mi-yu (Stone spa)
A stone spa is a curious bath without water. They're becoming popular with women in Japan, and are sometimes part of hot springs these days. Mi-yu in Masuda is like a sauna, but a little cooler. Hot stone spas cause more perspiration than saunas, and they have similar health benefits. After you've tried a stone spa, you'll need to take a shower in the facility.
When you enter a stone spa, you spread out a bath towel on warm natural stone and lie down on it with clothes on. Sometimes the spas have a recommended time you spend on each type of stone. You should also be sure to rehydrate regularly. At this spa, you can bring your own clothes, or you can rent a loose outfit.
