Shimane Nature Museum of Mt. Sanbe, SAHIMEL

This is the natural history museum at Mt. Sanbe in Ohda city.

Mt. Sanbe is an active volcano. In this museum, you can learn about volcanic activities, and geohistory through many exhibitions, pictures and videos. Interestingly, one of the huge trees of buried forest in Sanbe is also on display in this museum. The tree is 4000 yeas old, and it was buried in the ground during an eruption from Mt. Sanbe.

You can also learn the nature of Shimane, and astronomy through movies, planetarium, and observatory besides the history of the volcano in this museum.

This place is called “Let’s play in the wonder forest!” and it’s on the first floor. This place exhibits many kinds of taxidermy animals and specimens of insects in Shimane.

This place is called “Mt. Sanbe and the earth” and it’s on the second floor. You can touch and see some fossils and rocks.
